A Solo Female Budget Backpacker & Vegetarian travelling the World

Temporary Home - Langkawi

After a few days in Singapore guess where I ended up - yup back in Malaysia! A country I travelled through for 2,5 months, I just somehow fell in love with it. The food, soooo delicious and extremely easy for vegetarians; the culture, which is such a big mix of so many religions and traditions that even the western travellers feel welcome and integrated; and the people, who are some of the friendliest and kindest people I have met, always there to help you out if you need it (and randomly spend you food or tea without even talking to them). It is a country I feel welcomed in, comfortable and safe (this is especially important for us solo female travellers! To read more on which places are particularly safe and which you maybe should avoid click here).

My Temporary Home and House on Langkawi! I absolutely love it here!
After travelling for over a full year now (how time has flown by - I feel like I just started this trip!), I was starting to feel like I just wanted to stay in one place for a while, maybe find a volunteering project or work in exchange for food and accommodation, and not move around too much for a while. The three month Visa you obtain when entering Malaysia is a plus point, making it an easy country to stay in for a while. And since I loved it so much the first time - why not?!

I came to Langkawi a few weeks back now and am starting to settle in. I found a great place to stay at for a cheap price (all of you on a budget but looking for something clean, close to the beach in Pantai Cenang, and off the main road, Rainbow Lodge is a Guesthouse you MUST check out!), a volunteering project to take part in, a lot of time to work on my website and blogging (which is why I have expanded to this new webpage), and OF COURSE to explore the island.

Anyone of you fabulous readers around Langkawi within the next month or two - I will be here and would love to meet up with you! I always enjoy meeting new people, sharing the knowledge and information I have about the best things to see and do while here on Langkawi, and I can even help you out to find the right tours to book (there are so many companies and different tour guides here, all lining up to get those notes, it is hard to know which one is the best value for money).
Meeting up for a drink in one of my favourite bars, a chat over the best Teh Panas, or just hanging out on one of the nicer beaches and have a friendly face to talk to, just get in touch with me through Facebook, email, or call me on my local number once you get here!
Can't wait to meet you all!

Looks like a really pretty place. I've not travelled through Asia at all yet. Need to fix that!

You should! Asia has so much to offer and so much diversity! Love it here! And especially Malaysia, think it is one of my favourites so far!

Isn’t it wonderful when you’re traveling full time to find a spot you want to call home for a bit? All the moving around and exploring is obviously fun, but can be tiring. And spending more time in one place is just so rewarding. Good luck with this next bit of time and enjoy!

Thank you Sarah! It so is and I completely agree with you! As much as I love travelling full time, spending three months in Langkawi and making that a home for the time being was so rewarding as well. I absolutely loved it!

Totally understand you wanting to be in one place for a while and also about feeling like you fit in there. That's why I love Mexico, it's easy to feel like you belong.

I LOVE LANGKAWI! Great choice to settle for a while. I only spent 5 days there recently, but it is my top pick to go back for somewhere to live cheap and beautiful. So much so, my boyfriend and I may or may not have chosen this as our future elopement destination ;)
